Cumberland plans hearing on block grants
The Cumberland Township Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the Nemacolin VFC social hall, 411 Roosevelt Ave. in Nemacolin.
The hearing is being held to obtain citizen input for the development of the township’s proposal for the 2026 Community Development Block Grant Program and potential competitive application.
The 2026 allocation is projected at approximately $119,368. Eligible activities include but are not limited to public facilities improvements, infrastructures, housing, recreation facilities, street and road improvements, historic preservation, planning activities, and clearance.
The main objective of CDBG funding is to benefit low and moderate-income persons. Portions of the funding can also be used for slums and blight, or urgent need.
Citizens may also comment on the township’s prior use of CDBG funds. Special accommodations for people with disabilities can be requested and obtained by calling 724-966-5805 or 724-966-8558. Written comments and proposals may be submitted to 93 E. High St., Suite 217, Waynesburg, PA 15370, or email cbloom@greenecountypa.gov or, for Cumberland Township only, to 100 Municipal Road, Carmichaels, PA 15320 or email mesonne@windstream.net by June 23.
