Food collection
The Brownsville Area Ministerial Association’s “Food For Falcons” food program is collecting sandwich crackers and Pop-Tarts during the month of June. There will be a donation area in each participating BAMA church and at the end of the collection period the items will be gathered and taken to the Brownsville First Christian Church to be packed and sent home with selected elementary students.
Yard sale
Brownfield United Methodist Church, 1429 Brownfield Road, off of Hopwood Fairchance Road, will hold a yard sale starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 6. The fellowship hall will have refreshments and snacks. Rain date will be Saturday, June 13.
Strawberry festival
Calvin United Presbyterian Church (307 Spring Street, Brownsville) will be holding its annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Included on the menu will be chicken or egg salad sandwiches, ham BBQ sandwiches, strawberry smoothies, strawberry shortcake, strawberries on homemade waffles with ice cream, strawberry bowl with ice cream/whipped cream and iced tea or lemonade. Food giveaway
Fresh Fire Church will hold a food giveaway at the former Sears store at Uniontown Mall on Thursday, June 11. Participants are asked to not line up before 9 a.m., with the distribution beginning at 10 and running until noon.
Food distribution
The St. Vincent de Paul-sponsored food bank distribution will be held on Wednesday, June 17, at the parking lot of the St. Mary’s Social Hall, 118 Church St., Brownsville, from 11 a.m. through noon. The food will be loaded directly into cars by volunteers, and participants are asked to remain in their vehicles. Families must be registered with Fayette County Community Action Agency to receive food. Anyone who is not registered and lives in the Brownsville area must complete the required paperwork before receiving food, and those who register on the day of the distribution are not guaranteed a box at the site and may have to travel to the warehouse in Republic. Families wishing to sign up on the distribution day will need to bring photo identification, the date of birth of each person in the household, and verification of address.
Blood drives
There will be a blood drive at the St. Mary’s Social Hall of the St. Peter and St. Cecilia Parish (118 Church Street, Brownsville) on Thursday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Schedule your appointment at www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767.

Ostomy group
Penn Highlands Mon Valley offers an Ostomy Support Group the third Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be held June 18. The group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center located at 1163 Country Club Road in Monongahela. Penn Highlands Mon Valley’s Center for Wound Management offers the Ostomy Support Group for those with ostomies as well as their family and friends. There is no cost to participate. Yard sale
Long Branch Community Grange, 210 Chestnut St., Coal Center, will host a community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19 and 20. Those who bring their own table and set up outside will be charged no fee. If the grange provides a table indoors, vendors will be asked to pay $10. Women’s meeting
Malden Christian Fellowship, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville is holding a weekly meeting for women and teenage girls to discuss issues like depression, grief and eating disorders. Meetings are on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Addiction recovery
On Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the addiction recovery ministry There is Hope will be held at Malden Christian Fellowship, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville. Prayer group
Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church, 200 Thornton Road, Brownsville, is holding a weekly prayer group on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
