Waynesburg will put out another call for bids on a lot the borough took over after a 2024 fire.

At Monday’s monthly meeting, the borough council voted to deny the sole bid of $3,652 by Cassandra Teegarden for the property at 224 Second Ave. That amount was about half what the borough expected after appraisals, said Solicitor Adam Belletti.

“We could put in bat boxes and community gardens if we’re going to do that,” said Assistant Manager Bryan Cumberledge.

The site has been unused since a residential structure fire in October 2024 that led to the building being torn down.

The bidder had also asked for a water leak to be resolved, and for a curb cut to be added on Second Avenue, Belletti said.

“Every time there’s a curb cut that takes away on-street parking, and it also gives storm water a chance to jump the curb,” Cumberledge said. “If we allow a curb cut, then we make them put in storm drains in order to alleviate that, so storm drains will cost more than that.”

The owner of a neighboring property had told Cumberledge he was interested in the property, and would pay whatever was spent to raze the building — about $15,000, close to the appraised value of the lot, Cumberledge said.

Council members plan to vote on reopening bidding at next month’s meeting.

In light of the one offer received in a one-week bidding period, Belletti suggested extending the new round of bids to 30 days.
