A Fayette County magisterial court judge is leaving the bench.

Jennifer Jeffries, whose district encompasses Menallen and South Union townships, is retiring effective June 30, said Deputy Court Administrator Lori Lambie.

She was first elected in 2015, winning re-election to another six-year term in 2021.

Jeffries had spent 20 years as a state employee, Lambie said.

“She just felt like it was time for her,” she said.

Jeffries had not responded to a message seeking comment as of press time.

Prior to becoming judge, Jeffries spent five years as chief of staff for former state Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-South Union Township.

Jeffries has also held posts in other legal organizations, including the Special Court Judges Association of Pennsylvania and the Fayette County District Judges Association.

Jeffries is a graduate of Penn State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice.

No replacement justice will be appointed, Lambie said. Instead, cases will be covered by a senior magisterial judge until the next municipal election in spring 2027.

Lambie said the position is the first judicial vacancy in Fayette County since 2013, when Jeffries’ predecessor, Joseph George Jr., was elected to the bench of the county’s Court of Common Pleas.

Other Fayette County magisterial judges will cover any night duties, Lambie said.
