Man wanted in Fayette County assault caught after 12 years
A fugitive wanted for the sexual assault of a child is being extradited to Fayette County, more than a decade after he was originally charged.
Jesse Merle Keffer, 55, was taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police’s Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshals Thursday morning, Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said in a statement.
The arrest came after a state police investigation found Keffer had been living near Charlotte, North Carolina, Aubele said.
Keffer had been wanted since 2014, when he was charged with corruption of minors, indecent assault and indecent exposure in connection with an incident in McClellandtown. A fugitive declaration was filed that October.
“This is yet another example of the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to pursue justice regardless of the passage of time,” Aubele said in a statement Thursday. “We appreciate the assistance of our partners in North Carolina, the U.S. Marshals, and all of the other agencies that have made today’s apprehension possible.”
