The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a tornado watch for the region as severe weather is expected to hit the area Saturday night.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. for all counties in Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny, Fayette, Greene and Washington counties. Most of northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio are also included in the watch, which indicates a tornado is possible.

The weather service has indicated that in addition to possible tornadoes, conditions are right for damaging hail and wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh set a new record high of 77 degrees for March 7, breaking the previous record of 76 degrees set in 1983.
