Washington County officials are soliciting bids to build a new 18-hole miniature golf course at Mingo Creek County Park.

Interested builders have until March 30 to submit their sealed proposals to the county controller’s office, where they will be opened after the 11 a.m. deadline, according to a public notice in Wednesday’s edition of the Observer-Reporter newspaper.

The county commissioners approved a plan in November to spend $73,659 for Remington & Vernick Engineers of Ross Township to perform engineering studies at two proposed locations for the miniature golf course at Mingo Creek County Park. The 18-hole course would either be built on a half-acre lot near the park’s main entrance from Sugar Run Road or behind the county park office near the Ebenezer Covered Bridge.

An estimated 40-space parking lot would also be built nearby for visitors. County officials previously said that part-time summer workers would help run the site.

There would be a fee to use the facility, which is expected to be for visitors to rent putters and golf balls. Each hole would have a different theme touting Washington County’s history that includes the Whiskey Rebellion, courthouse, Pony League and other attractions.

It’s not known when the mini-golf course might be constructed and open, although county officials have said they hoped it would be ready for late summer or early fall during the peak season at the county park in Nottingham Township.
