Woman charged with homicide, DUI in Fayette crash

A Republic woman is accused of driving under the influence of drugs in a June crash that left one person dead.

Tiffany Lilley, 37, allegedly struck a Ford Escape parked in the driveway on Heisterburg Road in Luzerne Township shortly after noon on June 22.

Lilley’s silver Pontiac crossed into the opposite lane, left the roadway and struck the Escape on its passenger side, where Francis Shaw, 72, was sitting in the front seat, the complaint said.

Shaw was flown from the scene for further treatment at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va. He remained at the hospital until he was pronounced dead six days later, a doctor told police.

An officer at the scene found a red plastic cut straw in the center console of the car, which the officer described as an indication of drug use.

Lilley was transported by medical helicopter to Presbyterian Hospital from the scene for treatment of her injuries, the complaint said. Police said Lilley refused a blood draw at the hospital because she had substances “in her system.”

A urinalysis performed after the crash found buprenorphine and fentanyl, according to court paperwork. An officer at the hospital reported to troopers he also found additional packs of heroin hidden in Lilley’s genitals.

Lilley’s license was suspended at the time of the crash, police said.

She is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault while driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person and driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lilley was released on a $50,000 unsecured bond Monday. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 7.
