Family displaced after Uniontown fire
A Uniontown house that was home to six people is a total loss after a fire Friday night.
Fayette County 911 dispatch said a neighbor called in the fire at 99 Connellsville St. at 6:22 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke, said Uniontown Assistant Fire Chief Rick Lint.
No one was injured in the fire. Crews led off with an “aggressive attack and search,” Lint said, prompted by a bystander who said there might be two children upstairs.
“Crews got a pretty quick knock down, fast search to confirm that one was in the residence at the time,” he said.
Dispatchers described the house as a total loss. The back of the building sustained the brunt of the damage, Lint said.
The two adults and four children who lived in the house were all safe, Lint said. The American Red Cross had been notified to find shelter and clothing for the displaced residents for the evening.
Crews were on scene until just after 8 p.m. Uniontown received assistance from South Union Township and Hopwood fire departments, as well as Uniontown police.
“We did have a little extra manpower this evening, because we were getting ready for the May Day parade here in town,” Lint said.
