Fayette County commissioners OK energy audit

By Garrett Neese 2 min read

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to enter into an agreement for a comprehensive assessment of county facilities to see where their energy efficiency could be improved.

The audit agreement with the Harrisburg-based McClure Company will look at potential energy conservation measures and infrastructure improvements, as well as project costs and potential savings, according to materials provided by the board.

The county will not incur any expenses from the audit at this time, according to the contract approved Thursday. After the audit is completed, McClure and the county are tentatively planning to enter into a Guaranteed Energy Savings Agreement, in which McClure would perform energy conservation upgrades at the facilities.

The contract specifies that McClure will look at the major electrical and mechanical systems of the county facilities, including cooling and heating systems, ventilation and lighting. They will also conduct interviews with the buildings’ maintenance and operation staff.

To get a baseline, they will look at costs and energy usage over the past three years, taking the most representative 12-month stretch, the contract states.

Under the terms of the contract, McClure must complete the report within 90 days of the contract taking effect. The county would then have 60 days to perform a technical review.

It will have 30 days after receiving the report to notify McClure if any of the recommended conservation measures are not feasible.
