Calfrac branch in Smithfield to close, cutting 75 jobs

By Garrett Neese 1 min read

The Fayette County branch of a Canadian oilfield services company will be closing later this year.

The Smithfield facility of the Calgary, Alberta-based Calfrac Well Services employs 75 people, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification the company filed last week with the state Department of Labor.

Layoffs will occur in phases, starting on July 20 and ending on Sept. 30, the notice said.

The company did not return calls for comment.

Calfrac reported first-quarter revenues of $305.1 million in 2026, compared to $370.1 million the previous year, which its quarterly reported attributed in part to lower North American activity.

The company’s services include hydraulic fracturing and coiled tubing throughout North America and Argentina, while Argentina also offers wireline services and cementing.
