Hearings delayed in Greene arson, shooting cases
Hearings in two Greene County cases that had been scheduled for Tuesday have been continued until December.
Jesse Patterson, who had been set to appear for a pretrial management conference Tuesday now has a plea court hearing scheduled for Dec. 9.
Patterson, 38, of Waynesburg, is accused of setting a fire in the rectory of St. Ann Church in Waynesburg shortly before midnight on Aug. 30, 2025. Services at the church were canceled for the following three months.
He is also accused of setting a fire the next day at a trailer on High Street.
Patterson faces charges of first- and third-degree arson, institutional vandalism, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and risking catastrophe. He is also charged with aggravated arson in the case of the trailer fire.
Jury selection for a three-day trial had been slated to begin Thursday.
Also Tuesday, the pretrial management conference for Jeremy Currey was continued until Dec. 8.
Currey, 21, of Washington, is charged with attempted homicide in connection with a July 2024 shooting in Franklin Township in which a woman and a 2-year-old child were injured.
His alleged co-conspirator, Darius Wolfe, 21, of Claysville, agreed to testify against Currey at trial last year. He has yet to formally enter a plea.
Prosecutors said Wolfe fired several shots at a woman at Mountainview Gardens after an altercation between Currey and the woman who was shot. The woman lost vision in her left eye and needed medical intervention. The child has since recovered.
Both face conspiracy charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, along with multiple misdemeanors.
