Veterans Day parades planned in Washington, Waynesburg
The 2026 Washington County Veterans Day Parade honoring local veterans and their families will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, starting at 10 a.m.
In Greene County, the Veterans Day Parade is slated for 11 a.m., also on Saturday.
The Washington parade activities will kick off with a Veterans Resource Fair at 8:30 a.m. at the Main Street Pavilion that will feature open job interviews by McDonald’s and will include job resources and information on veterans healthcare and needs. There will be a basket raffle, with proceeds donated to organizations that support veterans’ mental health.
Before the 70-unit parade starts, retired U.S. Marine Corps officer Eric McElvenney will offer a keynote speech. McElvenny is a U.S. paralympian and motivational speaker who lost his right leg below the knee after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan in December 2011 during his third tour of duty.
The event also will honor veterans selected as Hometown Heroes and will include a wreath placement in front of war memorials located on the Washington County Courthouse grounds. The pre-parade will conclude with a flyover of Huey helicopters.
The parade will feature groups representing veterans units, civic and youth groups, businesses, first responders, floats, and vintage military vehicles.
“The theme we’re using is ‘A grateful community never forgets,’ and we’re trying to make this a big celebration to honor our veterans,” said Anastasia Barr-Whiteman, co-owner of Pretzels Plus in Washington and co-chair of the event with Melissa Six, a third-generation U.S. Army veteran.
The Waynesburg Veterans Day Parade will start on High Street. The pre-ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and includes patriotic face painting. The Carmichaels American Legion Post 400 Band will perform music.
The parade features groups representing veterans of all eras, military units, civic and youth groups, businesses floats, and vintage vehicles. Following the parade, refreshments will be provided at The Way. Veterans and the public are welcome.
