Uniontown teen charged with aggravated assault
A Uniontown teen was arrested Friday night after allegedly threatening to kill officers who responded to the parking lot where he was waiting.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, Uniontown police were notified that Zachary Welda, 19, had homicidal thoughts and was going to stab or kill police if they responded to 34 Millview St., where he was waiting in the parking lot.
When police arrived, Welda approached them with the blade of a folded knife exposed, according to his criminal complaint. He complied when asked to drop the knife and was placed under arrest.
Welda then head-butted the officer who was trying to place him in the back of a police car, and tried to escape as officers pulled him to the ground, the affidavit of probable cause said.
Welda is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and resisting arrest.
Judge Jason Cox denied Welda bail Friday on the grounds of posing a threat to himself and others.
Welda’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15.
