Donora man accused of exposing self in ice cream shop’s bathroom

A Donora man is accused of touching himself inappropriately inside a Westmoreland County ice cream shop’s bathroom last month, as police said he was completely nude when a teenage girl employee went into the men’s room to clean it during closing time.

State police said 22-year-old Calvin Horney went to the Dairy Queen in North Belle Vernon Borough shortly before the 9 p.m. closing time on Sept. 7 and entered the public restroom, where he allegedly performed a lewd act on himself.

Police said the 17-year-old female employee was cleaning the restaurant’s two bathrooms at the end of the night when she opened the men’s room door and saw Horney fully exposed, sitting on the toilet with a cellphone in one hand. The worker ran to the restaurant office to alert an adult female employee, prompting them to call 911, police said.

The other employee then went to the bathroom and banged on the door, telling Horney to leave as she looked through a crack in the slightly ajar door, but she received no response, according to court documents. The single-toilet bathroom had no privacy walls, so she could see him watching a video on his phone, police said.

After some time, Horney left the bathroom, but went to the counter to make a purchase, and the employees ordered him to leave, police said. State police troopers arrived moments after Horney drove away, but the employees were able to recall his license plate information and provide investigators with a physical description of him.

Troopers checked the vehicle’s registration and went to Horney’s apartment in Donora later that night before taking him to their barracks in Rostraver Township for an interview. Horney admitted to being in the public bathroom with his pants down and sweatshirt off while being completely nude, court documents allege, and to touching himself inappropriately.

Horney was then released as police continued to investigate the incident. On Thursday, state police charged him with misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure, open lewdness and disorderly conduct. Horney is awaiting his preliminary hearing before District Judge John Christner, which has not yet been scheduled.
