Man arrested on Marshall Plaza vandalism charge
Days after a flower display at the George C. Marshall Memorial Plaza was torn apart, a Fayette County man is accused of a separate act of vandalism at the Uniontown site Tuesday afternoon.
Uniontown police arrested Patrick Moore, 33, shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday at the nearby Sunoco station on Main Street, where Moore was talking with people who had notified authorities of the damage, the criminal complaint said.
An emergency medical technician who had been driving past the site told police that Moore had struck a floodlight, hit a George C. Marshall memorial sign and smashed a plate against a statue of a World War I soldier commemorating veterans.
The damage to the memorial is estimated at $1,500, according to the complaint.
No residence was listed for Moore in court documents.
Moore is charged with institutional vandalism of a memorial, intentional desecration of a public monument, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
He was lodged in the Fayette County jail after he was unable to post $20,000 bail.
Moore’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2 before Judge Nathan Henning.
The incident was the second reported act of vandalism at the park in a matter of days. Early Sunday morning, someone reportedly uprooted and scattered the flowers at the plaza planted by the local Green Gardeners group.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no charges had been filed in connection with the earlier event, which remains under investigation by state police.
