Police continue to investigate the circumstances around the Sunday shooting death of a Georges Township man.

Witnesses indicated one of the children at the Walnut Hill Road home where Shaun Davis, 39, was found had shot him to defend his girlfriend, who lived at the home, Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said Friday.

“We still have other evidence to evaluate and other statements to take, but that’s kind of the indication that we’re getting,” he said.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers responded to a report of shots fired at the home around 1 p.m. Davis died from his injuries while being transported to WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital.

In addition to statements from the people in the home at the time, Aubele said members of Davis’ family have told him he will receive statements from community members relating to the case.

“Until our investigation is complete, we’re seeking any information from the public that can aid us in our investigation,” he said.

At the time of the incident, Davis was subject to a no-contact order involving his ex-girlfriend stemming from a recent incident where he allegedly assaulted her, Aubele said. Under Pennsylvania law, she is not obligated to follow the order herself, he said.

“It seems like a waste of everybody’s time when a victim continues to be around a person voluntarily that they have an order against,” he said. “But it is the responsibility of the person who is subjected to that order to not be in contact with the person who has it. He was violating that when he was killed.”

Aubele said there is no timeline for the completion of the investigation or a decision on charges.

“We’ll get it done as soon as possible, but nothing will be rushed,” he said.
