Local businesses, municipalities gear up for Halloween
As Halloween draws closer, local businesses are beginning to get into the spirit through some old-fashioned, family-friendly fun, ranging from trunk-or-treats to flashlight tours on a local farm.
Ford of Uniontown and Premier Nissan are continuing their annual tradition of hosting a trunk-or-treat for neighborhood children.
“We go up on top of the hill by the old Honda building,” said Jessica Caringola, business manager at Ford of Uniontown. “There are typically anywhere between 20 to 30 trunks for the children to go to.”
Caringola added the trunk-or-treat at 1 Superior Way in Uniontown averages between 300 to 350 kids annually.
The tradition began four years ago, Caringola noted.
“We started doing this event four years ago, then we added Premier Nissan to the event when they came into town a year later,” she said. “This event was started because a lot of areas don’t do trick-or-treating; some do, but there are some roads that are not safe for children to walk down to be able to trick-or-treat safely, so we started doing this for those children.”
Caringola added the children who come to the event love getting to see the fire trucks, cement trucks, tow trucks and other larger vehicles present.
The trunk-or-treat will take place on Oct. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Continuing with the family-friendly trend is Reskovac Farms LLC with its fifth annual corn maze on Ruane Road, Uniontown.
“We have an 8.5-acre corn maze,” said Michael Reskovac, owner of Reskovac Farms. “This year the maze is themed around America’s 250th birthday. The maze takes between 30 to 45 minutes to complete. We also have bonfire pits available for rent on the premises.”
Admission is $8 per person, and bonfire pit rentals are $30, Reskovac added.

“We have a kids’ area where there are some activities they can do such as a wagon gravity basketball game and a giant box of corn they can play in,” Reskovac said. “We wanted to do something family-friendly because we have young kids and wanted something that wasn’t scary or haunted. We just wanted to provide the thrill of walking through a corn maze.”
Gates open for the maze begins at 5:00 p.m. then the flashlight walks begin at dark, Reskovac added.
