Greene County gets nearly $200K in Wisecarver funding

Ongoing improvements at the Wisecarver Park and Reservoir have received some additional funding.
The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved an amendment Thursday to Phase 2 of Wisecarver improvements for an additional award of $199,600. The money is coming from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Greene County has been working toward upgrades at the park since 2016, when it took over operations from the Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority with a 99-year lease.
Amenities in the second phase include a boat launch, a natural playground for children and a waterless restroom. Work should be complete by the end of the year, said board Chairman Jared Edgreen.
“This will combine with what we already have there — a kayak launch, a ball field — and so this is very exciting that we’re able to get a little bit more on this award through DCNR,” he said.
People have already been coming to Wisecarver more often thanks to the improvements, such as the kayak launches that were installed last year, said Vice Chair Betsy McClure. She predicted the new features will also see heavy use.
“The goal is to make that a destination in Greene County, and we’re phasing it in,” she said. “It is expensive to move earth, so we’re excited.”
