Ready to rebuild
Workers from Siron Construction and Supply of Armstrong County perform a site inspection at the base of where the historic cast-iron bridge once crossed Dunlap Creek in Brownsville before it was dismantled in late 2024 to be refurbished.
The original ribbing from the cast-iron bridge built in 1839 was sent to Michigan for repairs, and most of the pieces have been returned for the reconstruction project.
Crews plan to begin reassembling the bridge next week as part of the $9 million project that closed Market Street in Brownsville in November 2024. The bridge was supposed to reopen last December, but delays pushed back the completion date to this fall.
The 187-year-old Dunlap Creek Bridge that took early traffic along the National Road is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is also a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
