Inspectors find mouse droppings at Laurel Highlands school
A Laurel Highlands School District elementary school has been ruled out of compliance after state inspectors found mouse droppings throughout the building Friday.
R.W. Clark Elementary School in Uniontown had “too many (droppings) to count,” including inside classrooms, inspectors from the state Department of Agriculture Bureau of Food Safety said in the report.
Inside the kitchen, they found fresh droppings by the food and shelving units, as well as pellets by the food storage area and on top of food containers, the report said.
Cereal and granola products accessed by the mice had been thrown out, inspectors said.
R.W. Clark had been in compliance in previous inspections dating back to 2024. A 2025 inspection found minor violations such as a gasket that needed to be replaced.
The school remains open and was operating on its regular schedule Tuesday.
Laurel Highlands Superintendent Jesse Wallace had not responded to a request for comment by press time Tuesday.
