Uniontown man charged with assaulting officer
A Uniontown man is accused of assaulting a police officer who was placing him in custody.
John Schultz IV, 30, is charged with aggravated assault, flight to avoid apprehension, simple assault, evading arrest and disorderly conduct.
Shortly after noon Tuesday, as Pennsylvania State Police troopers were attempting to take Schultz into custody at Sweet Peas Gas Station for active arrest warrants, Schultz kicked one of them in the groin and attempted to flee, court documents said.
After being apprehended and brought back to the Uniontown barracks, Schultz told police he had been “freaking out” because he didn’t want to return to jail, according to the criminal complaint.
Schultz had been wanted for multiple retail fraud complaints, most recently an incident in which he was accused of stealing fleece jackets from Dick’s Sporting Goods Sunday night and escaped a police pursuit on bicycle.
Judge Jason Cox ordered Schultz be held without bail for potential flight risk, continued suspected criminal activity and for posing a threat to himself and others.
Schultz is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 5.
