Helen Marie Midlik Ponzurick, 98, of Hopwood, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Mount Macrina Manor, surrounded by her family and Father Kyprian of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church.

She was born May 5, 1927, in York Run, the daughter of the late Peter and Julianne Mihalko Midlik.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Ponzurick; son, Dr. Thomas G. Ponzurick; granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Ponzurick; brother, Andrew Midlik; infant sister, Anna Midlik; and sisters, Mary Cihota and Kathryn Truszkowski.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ellison Ponzurick; sons, James A. Ponzurick (Cynthia) and Bryan L. Ponzurick (Maria); grandchildren: Dr. Corey Denny (Morgan), Adam Ponzurick (Carly), Thomas Ryan Ponzurick (Lindsay), Eric James Ponzurick (Emily) and Matthew Ponzurick (Samantha); great-grandsons, Henry, Jackson and Russell Ponzurick; and great-granddaughters: Mae and Maddie Denny and Anna Ponzurick. She is also survived by nieces: Dianne Harmon, Judy Kalish, Kim Waldasin; and nephews: Andrew (Sonny) Midlik, Robert Midlik and Phil Ponzurick.

Helen graduated from Uniontown Senior High School, Class of 1945. She retired from the Fayette County Treasurer’s Office. Her family operated the former Midlik’s Store on Lincoln Street in Uniontown. She is the last surviving member of her generation from the Midlik and Ponzurick families.

Faith and religion were very important to Helen. She was a lifelong member of St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church from her youth until her health no longer permitted her to participate. She volunteered for numerous church functions, including making Pirohi, working Ethnic Festivals and bake sales. She was also involved with Rosary Walk in Uniontown. She was a member of the Church’s Ladies Guild society and a member of the former women’s duck pin bowling league. She was a member and officer of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge 81.

As a Byzantine Catholic, Mt. Saint Macrina was important to her family and faith. Every Labor Day weekend, she made the pilgrimage held at Mount Saint Macrina. To date, she attended all 90 pilgrimages, for perfect attendance.

Visitation will be held in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, a Parastas Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. Family and friends will be received until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, when a Panachida Service will be held followed by a Divine Liturgy with Father Kyprian Wojciechowski at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery.
