It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie “Gurt” Thomas, 83, of Connellsville, PA. Elsie “Gurt,” the daughter of the late Bener and Callie Thomas, was born June 4, 1942, and passed away Monday, August 25, 2025.
Esie “Gurt” loved spending time with her great-children and always enjoyed going to bingo. She was such a loving person with a very happy demeanor, and she was always smiling.
Esie “Gurt” is survived by her husband, Randy Shider; beloved children, Joyce Crow (Terry), Vickie Tate (Dave), Gary, Claire, Lisa, Mae, Amy, and Karen; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren; brothers, Cecil Thomas (Rina), and Chuck.
Elsie “Gurt” will be deeply missed. May she Rest In Peace.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, at the GATES FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, 136 N. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 3. Interment will follow at the Historic Hopwood Cemetery, Hopwood PA.
