Velda J. Rutherford Brown, 76, of Brownsville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 21, 2025.
She was born April 23, 1949, in Centerville, a daughter of the late Ralph and Alverda Edwards Rutherford.
Velda and her friend, Erica started The Desert Storm Support Group for The Brownsville Area.
She was very active and volunteered her time at her church, United Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Coal Center.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Anthony Brown; four sisters, Peggy Cowell, Ruth Frazier, Elizabeth Fowler, and Irene Prato; and her brother, Harry Rutherford.
Velda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Michael A. Brown; two daughters, Christina Brown Dickson, and Michele A. Csonka and husband Robert; seven grandchildren, Kate Heller, Lauren Hunt, Arthur Hunt and wife Lilly, Anthony Rhodes, Bethany Rhodes, Megan McNeely and husband Steve, and Kaitlyn Csonka; and eight great- grandchildren; her twin sister, Zelda Lowden; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, from 11 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, December 26, with Pastor Amory Merriman officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park.
