George Emery “Poochie” Kopacka, 78, of New Salem, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on February 3, 1947, in Isabella, a son of Joseph F. and Helen Louise Kopacka.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Loretta Kopacka Collins.

Poochie graduated from Redstone High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked for many years as a coal miner at Isabella Coal Mine and retired from Shallenburger Reclamation.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Melody Broadwater Kopacka; daughters: Roxanne Kopacka of New Salem, Natalie Kozura (Ryan) of Unionville, Va. and Kathleen Kopacka (Lucas) of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren: Nate Guty, Jake Kozura and Cole Kozura; sister, Genevieve Jellick of Wrightstown, N.J.; brothers, Joseph F. Kopacka and his wife, Becky of New Salem, and Sam Kopacka and his wife, Donna of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Poochie’s family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, in the KISH-FABRY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 20 N. Mill Street, New Salem, where his funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. followed by full Military Rights and Honors accorded by the George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.

Valet parking will be available during visitation hours.
