Josephine “Noni” Rose Filmeck DeLorenzo, 98, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025, with her three loving daughters by her side.

Josephine, a daughter of Caroline and Michael Filmeck, was born in Lamberton. The family later moved to Uniontown (Collier), where she spent most of her life. Later, she resided with family in Louisville, Ky., and has been living with family in Virginia since the fall of 2020.

Josephine was married to her high school sweetheart, James “Jiggs” DeLorenzo for 75 years. They graduated from Georges Township High School in 1944. She enjoyed planning many reunions with beloved classmates.

She was a parishioner of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Fairchance for many years.

While James served with the Marines during World War II, Josephine was also called to service, working as a secretary at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. She often reminisced about how much she enjoyed her time there, working and exploring the city with her girlfriends.

After the war she returned to Pennsylvania. She and James married in June 1947. She thrived at being a homemaker and raising four children in a neighborhood full of extended family and friends. Josephine also cared for her stepfather, who lived next door for many years. Later, she worked at Prudential Insurance Company, and then for her son-in-law doing medical insurance coding and billing.

Josephine loved baking, especially the delicacies of her family’s Slovakian homeland. In recent years, her children and grandchildren have honored her baking skills by trying to replicate her recipes.

Josephine also loved reading, crossword puzzles, news, politics and movies. Holidays were very special to her, as she loved celebrating with extended family. She was always ready to step in when needed to help with the care of her grandchildren, and thoroughly enjoyed attending their sporting events and school activities.

Josephine loved traveling with the family in the U.S. and abroad, including visiting the countries of her sons- in-law. She always looked forward to summer road trips and beach vacations.

Josephine was known for her hospitality, kindness, and loving spirit. She was truly selfless in every way, and won the hearts and admiration of all who knew her. We will never forget her beautiful smile and joyful laughter.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was predeceased by her husband, James F. DeLorenzo, Jr.; a son, James F. DeLorenzo, III; grandsons, Jalil and Esah Maamry; her siblings, Joseph Filmeck, Michael (Ruth) Filmeck, Mary (Albert) Rulli, Fritz (Antoinette) Filmeck, Anne (Leonard) Petix, Jack (Lena) Filmeck, and Tim (Eleanor) Filmeck.

Josephine is survived by her children, Marilyn (Vasken) Tenekjian, Carolyn (Riad) Saradar, and JoAnne (Eddie) Maamry; grandchildren, Cherene, Jeffrey, Christine (Drew), Mark (Laura), Laura (Sean), Justin (Lisa), and Ameerah; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Nyri, Jeyra, Behr, Remi, and Aida; and great-great granddaughter, Josephine (her namesake); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 W. Church Street, Fairchance, where family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, and until 9:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 1 in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church, 50 N. Morgantown Street, Fairchance. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown.

The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care Josephine received from special caregivers Lakesha and Shawn, and Capital Caring Hospice in Chantilly, Va.

Memorial donations may be made to the Adam Jalil Maamry Memorial Fund or the Maryknoll Missions.
