Mrs. Barbara A. Matthews, 87, of Lemont Furnace, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
She was born in Little Port, Iowa on April 1, 1938 a daughter of the late Herald and Rose Kolosky Rolfe.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Theodore Matthews and a granddaughter, Meghan Masi.
Barbara graduated from North Union High School, class of 1956.
She married the love of her life, Mr. Franklin D. Matthews, Sr., on August 20, 1956. They shared a life full of love, family, and friends for 70 years. They had three children, 14 grandchildren, and eight great- grandchildren, who were all her pride and joy.
In her younger years, Barbara completed cosmetology school and upholstery schooling. She worked at Matthew’s Clover Farm Store, The Dog House, DeMarco’s Potato Chip Factory, and The Summit Inn for over 20 years. She loved her family and put her heart and soul into creating memories. She was an avid entertainer and was known for her extravagant 4th of July parties, and beautiful holiday celebrations full of homemade food and baked goods. She was a meticulous host and took great pride in her home. She loved shopping, antiquing, painting ceramics, canning, and all animals, especially her faithful companion Pepe, who never left her side.
She was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Frank D. Matthews, Sr. of Lemont Furnace; three children, Pam Crum and husband John of Mt. Braddock, Cindy McClain and husband Charles of Mt. Independence, and Frank D. Matthews, Jr. and wife Sherry of Palmer, Alaska; grandchildren, Tiffani Strotz and husband Nicolas of Hopwood, Danielle Crum and significant other Justin Cacak of Huntersville, NC, Sarah Rose Wolbert and husband Nathan of Mt. Braddock, Marissa Flanders and husband Justin of Connellsville, Molly Matthews of Pittsburgh, Franklin D. Matthews, III of Mt. Independence, Malia Matthews, Micah Matthews, Jacob Matthews, and Jade Matthews all of Palmer, Alaska, Janelle Cooper of Uniontown, Jessica Springer of Hopwood, and Juyoung of Korea; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Rose, Everett, Briella, Remington, Jaxson, Addisyn, Hudson, and Wade; previous daughter-in-law, Mary Matthews of Dunbar; and siblings, Harold Rolfe, Donald Rolfe, Ruth Ann Micucci, and William Rolfe.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the nurses, Staff, and caregivers who lovingly helped care for her.
Visitation will be held at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401 on Friday, November 7th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 4 p.m. with visitation from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Cove Run Free Methodist Church, 345 Yauger Hollow Rd., Lemont Furnace, PA 15456.
Entombment will be at Sylvan Heights Cemetery on Monday, November 10th at 1 p.m..
