Loretta Patricia Johnson Leoni, of Thompson #1, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 98.
She was the daughter of the late Louis Johnson, Sr. and Stella Yocabet Johnson, also of Thompson #1.
Loretta was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Jerry Leoni, originally of Uniontown; brothers, Anthony Johnson of Uniontown and Louis Johnson, Jr. of Keany Row; and sister, Louise Johnson DelSignore of Thompson #1.
Loretta is survived by her sons, Danny (Barbara) Leoni of Rosamond, Calif. and Jerry (Patty) Leoni of Van Nuys, Calif.; grandson, Danny Leoni; great-grandson, Corey J. Leoni; and great-granddaughter, Emma Louise Leoni; step-grandchildren: Jason and Jessica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Loretta graduated from Redstone High School, class of 1945. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from California College and a Masters degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Oakland. “Mrs. Leoni” taught English to thousands of students at Redstone and Brownsville High Schools during her teaching career and retired in 1985.
She was honored to be invited to countless class reunions over the years, attending nearly every one.
Loretta’s home was always open to family and friends to visit over a cup of coffee and a piece of her famous Texas sheet cake or chocolate brownies.
Special cousin and friends who visited often were: Jackie Savini, Eileen Johnson, Joyce Rollison and Glenda Silo.
Loretta’s joy was attending her sons’ performances at concerts, locally and in the surrounding area. She also enjoyed cheering for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Loretta helped operate the family business, Johnson’s Bar and Restaurant.
She was a lifelong, active member, of the former Holy Rosary Church of Republic, where she taught Catechism at one time. She then attended St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Footedale.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Loretta’s care-givers, Stephanie Sharp and Paula Thomas; the nurses at Amedisys; and the staff at Jennie’s Personal Care Home.
The family also expresses deep and loving appreciation to her niece, Kathy Gmutza for her loving care of “Aunt Loretta.”
Friends will be received in The DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, and from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Monday, November 10, where a Prayer Service will be held. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church – Uniontown. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown.
