Marion H. Shearer

Marion H. “Pete” Shearer, husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, October 27, 2025, at the age of 94.

Pete was born March 24, 1931, in Leechburg, to Ruth Louise Hill Shearer and John Marion Shearer.

He graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1949, and worked for Allegheny Ludlum Steel of Brackenridge prior to and after serving four years in the Navy aboard ship during and after the Korean War.

He graduated from Grove City College in 1959 and later attended California State College to obtain his teaching degree. He then went on to obtained his master’s degree from Kent State in 1969.

Mr. Shearer taught Industrial Technology at Rootstown High School in Ohio for over 31 years, retiring in 1990. He taught Electrical Engineering at the National Education Center of Stow, Ohio and then drove for R&R Trucking of Akron, Ohio after retirement prior to moving to Uniontown in 2001.

Pete had a full life! He was able to travel around the world three times while in the Navy. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, where he was the chaplain for its Honor Guard and post chaplain for many years participating in over a thousand funerals.

He and his wife, Penny loved to travel on his BMW motorcycle, and did just that all over the United States. He loved hunting, gardening, bee keeping and flying radio-controlled model airplanes. He was a Ham Radio operator, an auto mechanic, an electrician, a carpenter, and a plumber.

Pete is survived by his wife of 39 years, Penny Molenock Shearer; sister, Charlotte Shearer of Uniontown; his children: daughters, Kathie Davidson of Texas, Janet (Tim) Flint of Maryland; and son, Peter (Stephanie) Shearer of Ohio; his stepchildren, Heather Averbook (Jason) of Minnesota and Dan Donaldson of Ohio; grandchildren, Amber (John) Capello, Hannah (Alex) Pirpiris, Kristen Small, Evan (Hollie) Small, John Small, Stephen Small, Joshua Shearer, Dustin (Sarah) Shearer, Clarissa Shearer, Ben Averbook, Alex Averbook, and Ella Donaldson; and great- grandchildren, Sofina Capello, Lucca Capello, Kamilla Capello, Maya Shearer, and twins Archer and Magnolia Shearer. He is also survived by several loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Paul and Robert; and cousin, Sam.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, where family and friends will be received from 1 until the time of a service celebrating Pete’s life at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 30, with Pastor Nick Cook officiating. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, P.O. Box 423, Hopwood, PA 15445.
