With heavy hearts, the family of Irene M. Mariscotti announce her peaceful departure from this life Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the age of 89. It was fitting that she was born during a fierce thunder/wind storm in Granville July 27, 1936, the youngest of John and Mary Jeney.

She lived a life rich with memories, love, and adventure. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, whose spirit touched all who knew her.

Irene was a remarkable woman who earned her Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and a Master’s as a Reading Specialist. However, the career she loved most was as a travel agent and owner of Mariscotti Travel in California. She passionately helped others explore the world, creating unforgettable journeys and experiences for her clients. Her zest for life was evident in every destination she explored with her husband, John, and all the stories they shared.

She served on California Borough Council for two terms, and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She always had her nose in a book, was always impeccably dressed, and even had her makeup done when doing yard work. She was a Master Gardener, a terrific seamstress and had an incredible eye for interior design and color.

She was a wind storm, never backed down from a heated debate, and would defend you to no end if she thought you were in the right.

She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, didn’t miss a home Steelers game and if the Pirates were playing, the TV was on. She seldom missed one of Enzo’s baseball games or Gabby’s softball games, from T-ball through high school.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Mariscotti, October 24, 2008; her siblings, John Jeney (Ruth), Mary Melnick (Frank), Ann Sabo (Bud), Mike Jeney (Liz), and Albert Jeney (Dorothy); and her in-laws, Tony and Oda Mariscotti.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dr. Carla Mariscotti of Hummelstown, and Tony and Kim Mariscotti of California; the grandchildren she adored, Enzo (Emma Rakowski) of San Antonio, Texas, and Gabby Mariscotti (Will Deichert) of Philadelphia. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

They will forever hold her memory close in their hearts, honoring the legacy of love, warmth, wisdom and tradition that she imparted upon them.

The family will receive friends in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME, INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, Monday, April 6, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and until 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, when prayers of transfer will be said in the funeral home. A 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Historic Church of St. Peter, Brownsville, with Fr. Efren Ambre and Fr. Aaron Bamba as concelebrants.

Entombment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Irene’s indomitable spirit will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of her family, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Thank you to the staff at Jennie’s Personal Care Home, and Amedisys Hospice – we are grateful and indebted to you for your care and kindness to the family.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the California Recreation Authority, P.O. Box 565, California, PA 15419.
