Star Junction

James J. “Jim” Bohatch, 66, of Star Junction, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family. Born May 14, 1959 in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Andrew V. Bohatch, Sr. and Loretta Decker Bohatch.

A lifelong resident of Star Junction, Mr. Bohatch was Catholic by faith.

Jim dedicated much of his life to his family’s business. He began working at Big Barn Produce during his youth and took over the family business in the 1980s, expanding it into Big Barn Country Store, which he successfully operated for over 40 years. He also worked for Perry Township EMS from 1986 into the early ’90s.

Jim was actively engaged in his community, including participation in the Brownsville Hotel Football Club and a passion for fantasy football. His dedication extended to supporting the Perry Township Fire Department and the Perryopolis VFW Post 7023. An avid hockey enthusiast, he partially held season tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguins and treasured his time spent with his beloved dogs.

Jim will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, community involvement, and love for family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Lyons Bohatch, to whom he was married for 29 years; daughter and son-in-law, Jaimie and Ray Craig of Mt. Pleasant; many cousins and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Andrew V. Bohatch, Jr. and Edward Decker.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, from 2 to 4 and 6 until the time of funeral services at 7:30 p.m., with Pastor Lee Maley of Mt. Olive Evangelical Church officiating, i the PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, Family Owned and Operated, 191 Liberty Street, Perryopolis, 724-736-2515.

A Celebration of Life service will also be held Saturday, May 16, at 1 p.m. at the Big Barn Country Store, Star Junction.

The family wishes to extend its sincerest gratitude to everyone in the community for their support at the store.

The family also suggests memorial contributions be made, in memory of Jim Bohatch, to the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department.
