Katherine Mihaly Shearer, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully, in her home, Saturday, August 17, 2026, with her husband, John, lovingly by her side. Born November 10, 1936, in Connellsville, Katherine was the daughter of the late Catherine and John Mihaly. She attended St. John Elementary School and graduated from Connellsville High School with the Class of 1954.
Following her passion for helping others, Katherine graduated from the Uniontown School of Nursing in 1957. She began her career at Uniontown Hospital. She later joined the medical practice of Dr. Prakorb in Brownsville until her retirement in 2015. Katherine deeply loved her work and treated every patient with genuine warmth and professionalism.
She is survived by her loving family, including her husband, John Shearer; her children, Laura Dillon Van Vlack, and Michelle Dillon and husband Warren Kunz; her grandchildren, Erik Van Vlack and his wife, Laura Drapkin, Haley Van Vlack and her husband, Dante Peluso; one great-grandson, Jonah; her stepchildren, Margie Joseph and husband Geoffrey, and John and wife Kathleen Shearer; sister, Martha Kozak; and loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jonathan Van Vlack; sister, Bernadette Hershmen; brother, Robert Mihaly; and brother-in-law, Webb Kozak.
Katherine was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg.
Services will be private and are under the direction of the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 E. Green Street, Connellsville.
