Tonya E. Johnson Green, 60, of Uniontown, transitioned Wednesday, January 7, 2026. She was born August 30, 1965.
Tonya lived a life centered on faith, friendship, and simple joys that brought her genuine happiness.
She had a love for education that sparked early in life and drove her to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Penn State University and her Master’s degree in Special Education and Science from California University of Pennsylvania.
She began her career as an educator with New Directions and later became a teacher at Laurel Highlands Middle School, where she was a devoted and well- respected teacher for 27 years.
Tonya was unwaveringly faithful to her family, close circle of friends, students, and church, where she found purpose and community, and participated wholeheartedly as a member of St. Paul’s A.M.E. She was also an ordained minister who lived by her faith and treated others with warmth and kindness.
Tonya is survived by her daughter, Clairesa and Brian Gebhart; her son, Jeremiah Green; and her grandchild, Elias Gebhart – all who will carry forward her legacy and values; her mother, Diane Johnson; siblings, Dr. Margaretta and Tracey Austin, Carl “Shorty” Johnson Jr, Makka Johnson, Clayton and Dawn Johnson, Corey and Glory Johnson, Christa Johnson, and Honorary Sister, Sharon Jones; many nieces and nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tonya’s life at the LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, INC., 297 E. Main Street, Uniontown, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon Saturday, January 17. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
