Eli Richard Shumar, Jr., 78, of Grindstone, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 17, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He was born July 27, 1947 in McKeesport, a son of Eli, Sr. and Sophia Zavilinsky Shumar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Tait Shumar; his sister, Mary Louise Dubbs; and nephew, Stephen Dubbs.

Eli was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Footedale.

In 1974, he founded Shumar’s Welding and Machine Service, working there for 44 years before his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Shumar; his son, Richard (Kristen) Shumar of Grindstone; daughter, Tina (Shawn) Remington of New Salem; stepson, Andy (Hope) Hlatky of New Salem; stepdaughters, Christina (Ronald) Yanak of New Salem, Jolene Schiavoni of Murrysville; grandchildren, Luke Shumar, Sarah Shumar, Peyton Remington, Shawn Remington, Taylor Remngton; stepgrandchildren, Amber Lubinsky, Jessica Yanak, Vincent Yanak, Emily Yanak, Daniel Britz, Elizabeth Britz, Chase Perla, Jaxson Perla, Brittany Remington, and Bethany Remington; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Jacquline (Ed) Bellan; brother, Greg (Teresa) Shumar; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Eli’s family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, in the KISH-FABRY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 19 Legion Street, Republic, where Prayers of Transfer will be prayed at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St Francis of Assisi R. C. Church (Footedale Worship Site). Entombment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.
