Joseph Matthew Hackney, 76, of Hopwood, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, in his home.

He was born March 20, 1949, a son of the late Marlin “Bud” and Laura Chunkala Hackney.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Regina Kay Lozaw Hackney; his children, Carla Fabac (Michael) of Irwin, and Joseph M. Hackney Jr. (Christine) of Lemont Furnace; grandchildren, Luke Fabac, Joseph Hackney III, Marissa Fabac, and Alyssa Hackney; brothers, Jay Hackney of Crucible, David Hackney (Patty) of McClellandtown; and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was a retired coal miner working in the Shannopin Mine. He was a member of UMWA for 22 years and a member of Hutchinson Sportsman’s Club.

He was a graduate of German Township High School Class of 1968.

Visitation was held in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 18. Additional visitation was held Monday, January 19, from 10 until the hour of the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Kyle Eisenhuth officiating. Interment followed in McClellandtown Presbyterian Cemetery.
