James Sherman Hall, 88, of Collier and formerly of Dilliner, died Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a brief illness.

Born in Bobtown, on July 8, 1937, he was a son of the late James Stanley and Nellie Morley Hall.

A 1955 graduate of Point Marion High School, Sherman served in the United States Army Reserves, worked first at Houze Glass in Point Marion and later was employed as a coal miner at Duquesne Light for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Dilliner and the UMWA.

For many years, he enjoyed working in his garden, hunting, fishing, camping and Steelers football games.

Surviving are his four children: James (Sue) Hall and John (Louise) Hall, all of Dilliner, Lori Swanson of Core, W.Va., and David (Teresa) Hall of Medina, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jimmy Hall, Amy Yakubik, Ben (Stacey) Hall, Nikki (Ryan) Maley, Josh (Rachel) Wade, Ashley Wade, Crissy (Joe) Tennent and Brandon (Lauen) Hall. Sherman was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren and the loving family of Rhea Howell. He most enjoyed spending time with all his family.

Sherman was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Judith Ann “Judy” Hall, died on May 21, 2010; his dear companion for the past 13 years, Rhea Howell; his sister, Janet Gasparatz and her son, Edward “Lee” Gasparatz; and his loyal pup, Paco.

The family will receive friends in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 28.

A Memorial Service honoring Sherman’s life will begin at 3 p.m. with the Reverend William Parker officiating. Private interment will be in Wolf’s Cemetery, Dilliner, immediately following the Memorial Service.
