With gentle sorrow and abiding love, the family of Mary Ann Pierce share her passing Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the age of 88. Mary Ann’s life was a quiet testament to kindness and love for her family and her faith.
Mary Ann was born and raised in Uniontown. After high school she left to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C. She married Dean Pierce and had two children.
Mary Ann will always be remembered as a fun, loving, happy person who had a gift for storytelling! She had a joyful soundtrack to life. Her love of music spanned Reggae, Pitt Bull, Springsteen, and John Mellencamp. She treasured a good laugh, especially Saturday Night Live, Dave Chappelle and Stephen Colbert. She loved baseball, cheering for Manny Machado and Juan Soto and her family will forever smile at memories of her banging pots and pans and her trademark PALMOLIVE.
Mary Ann is lovingly survived by her children, Dr. Kurt Pierce of Middleburg, Va., and Deann Pierce O’Brien (Danny) of Rockville, Md.; her grandchildren, Karly O’Brien (Chris Wychock), Daniel Dean O’Brien (Emily), Korin Pierce, Conlan Pierce (Ami), Marial Pierce (Matt Garziano), Beth Ann Pierce (Jack Laffey), Marcos Pierce; and her great-grandchildren, Shay Elizabeth Wychock, Stella Wynne Wychock, Jack Pierce Wychock, and Mason Dean O’Brien. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Dorothy Shaffer and Evelyn Hensh and brother-in-law, Paul Hensh; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Stepanik Hanzes; father, Michael “Corkey” Hanzes; brother, Michael Hanzes; daughter-in-law Maria Biosca Pierce; and grandson, Luis Michael Pierce.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7, in St. Mary’s Church, Uniontown, with a reception to follow at the Catholic War Vets, Uniontown.
