John A. Brown, 79, of Hopwood, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at WVU J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born in McKeesport, on January 20, 1947 to the late Arch and Doris Hansen Brown.

John graduated from McKeesport High School, and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War era.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.

John was married to Nancy Talpas Haky Brown, who preceded him in death on September 19, 2018.

John was well known through his bartending position at the Coal Baron Restaurant for over 30 years; and finished his bartending career at the AMVETS General George C. Marshall Post #103 in Hopwood. He also taught a mixology course at the University of Pittsburgh.

He was man of many hobbies.

John is survived by a son, Stephen R. Haky, IV; four grandchildren: Corey Taylor, Arriana Haky, Luke Haky and Mackenzie Haky; two sisters, Susan Katchur and husband, Robert, and Patty Fogle; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Leslie Brown; and brother-in-law, Paul Fogle.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 9, at the South Union Golf Course, 25 Bailey Ln, Uniontown, PA 15401.

Arrangements are under the direction of the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401.
