George Skovran, 95, of New Salem, passed away peacefully at home on his beloved farm, Monday, May 25, 2026.
He was born on May 12, 1931, at his home on the farm, son of the late Andrew and Anna Skovran. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Andrew, John and Michael Skovran; and four sisters: Catherine Manning, Ann Tercho, Helen Sikora and Irene Guziak Kowalczyk.
George was a proud farmer whose hands and heart were rooted in the land that he loved. Riding his tractor on his open fields was his greatest joy!
He lived a life defined not by wealth or recognition, but by kindness, humility, hard work, and devotion to family, faith, and friends. George could brighten any room with a joke, a story, a smile, or a wave. His warmth, laughter, and steady presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilige of knowing him.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Anna J. Radzik Skovran; children: Cindy Holloman and husband, Rudy George Skovran and wife, Karen, Kenneth Skovran and wife, Jennifer and Renee Schultz and husband, Richard; grandchildren: Kristen Monahan and husband, Luke, Ryan Holloman, Larissa Porterfield and husband, Colby, Jacob Skovran and wife, Katie, Gabby, Emma and Lilah Skovran and Joshua Schultz; three great-grandchildren, whom he adored; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in The DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, where a Panachida Service will be held followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church of New Salem, with the Reverend Father James Ragan as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery.
