Alberta “Bertie” Louise Kingan Switalski, 95 of Smithfield, Pa. passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026 at Fairfield Liberty Hall Personal Care Home, Fairchance, Pa.
She was born April 13, 1931 to Thomas W. and Ellen Stemnock Kingan.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 74 years, Kenneth S. Switalski; parents, Thomas and Ellen Kingan; brothers, Edward, Roy, and George “Jim” Kingan; sisters, Minnie Kennison, Dorothy Miller, and Rose Humphreys.
Bertie is survived by her loving daughter, Joyce Dean (Chuck); two granddaughters, whom she adored, Leya Dean Fecek (Ronald), Lauren Dean Ellsworth (Zachary); five great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Isaac, Audrey, Seth and Norah Ellsworth all of Fairchance; the following sisters, Margaret Switalski of Norman, OK, Laura “Bub” Conley of New Geneva, Kate “Toots” Barton of Masontown, and loving nieces and nephews.
She attended Whitehouse Free Methodist Church for many years.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to all at Fairfield for the loving care provided to “Bertie Bird” during her stay.
The family will receive friends and family in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. on Tuesday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kenny Rockwell officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
