John Zawislan
North Huntingdon
John Zawislan, 79, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully Friday, October 30, 2026. Mr. Zawislan was born February 20, 1947, in Connellsville, to the late John and Marion Zawislan.
John was a proud graduate of Geibel Catholic High School Class of 1965, as well as the University of Pittsburgh Class of 1969. His devotion for all things Pitt sports remained throughout the rest of his life.
He was a much loved and respected teacher of 35 years, starting in the Rankin School District and eventually retiring from Woodland Hills School District.
John’s passion for sports was tangible, as he coached football and basketball throughout his teaching tenure. His passion shifted to soccer with his daughters finding love in the game. A dedicated mentor on and off the field, he will be remembered for teaching life lessons that extended far beyond the game.
He spent his retirement keeping busy and refusing to sit still, always tinkering around with odd projects in his shed and around the house, as well as building quite an extensive collection of John Wayne memorabilia and Hallmark Mustang ornaments.
He also could not be found without his beloved dog, Duke by his side.
John is survived by his children: son, Michael Zawislan of Connellsville; daughters, Julie Zawislan of North Huntingdon, Nicole (Jason) Olexik of McKeesport; as well as grandsons, Noah Zawislan and Waylon Olexik.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Kim.
As per John’s wishes, all services will be private. Arrangements by BALL FUNERAL CHAPEL, INC.
