Edward M. Bellan

Edward M. Bellan, 74, of New Salem, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026. He was born June 12, 1952, in Brownsville, the son of Matthew and Dorothy Steeber Bellan of Carmichaels.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Dorothy Bellan; sister, Betty (Tina) Croftcheck; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Yuras and Eli Shumar, Jr.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, Jackie Shumar Bellan; son, Eric M. Bellan (Kim); daughters, Nicole Bellan Sijtsma (Bill), Jennifer Kolek (Jason), Rachel Lazar (Tom); siblings, Clarine Swift (Bob Morrison), Rita Yuras, Shirley Yocabet (Jim); brothers-in-law, Donnie Croftcheck, and Greg Shumar (Teresa); his grandchildren, Matthew Bellan (Jamie), Nicholas Sijtsma (Bailey), Sean Sijtsma, John Sijtsma, Gracie Bellan, Kylie Kolek, Christopher Bellan, Aubree Kolek, Benjamin Bellan, Leo Lazar, Dorothy Bellan and Tommy Lazar; four great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Edward retired from General Dynamics, where he was a project manager.
His greatest enjoyment in life was spent with his family. Edward was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who took pride in every member of his family and treasured every moment they shared. He especially enjoyed having family picnics at his house, where all the family would come together. His passion for life spread easily to those around him. He was an avid outdoorsman and after retirement took great pleasure in gardening.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 8, in the GATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 136 N. Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, where a prayer service officiated by David McElroy will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be private.
