John R. Hoye, Jr.
formerly of Uniontown
It is with great sorrow we share that John R. “Ray” Hoye, Jr. 78, of 1906 Morrell Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 (formerly of Uniontown, PA) passed away peacefully Saturday October 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness complicated by Alzheimer’s.
Born on December 20, 1947, at Magee Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, he was a only child of John R. Hoye, Sr., and Ethel Piovarchy Hoye.
Ray graduated from Uniontown Senior High School, Class of 1965, University of Pittsburgh 1969, and University of Pittsburgh Law School in1972. He participated in ROTC while in college, and served in the U.S. Army as an MP for six months. After he returned from the Army, he was engaged in private law practice and served as Assistant District Attorney of Fayette County. Ray’s commitment to family and the importance of daily interaction with family was his main priority. When offered a job in the Trust Department of Gallatin National Bank, working with Frank Smith and the Eberly Foundation, Ray did not hesitate. He maintained his position as Vice President of Estates and Trusts at PNC through three bank mergers.
Ray loved Politics. His mother and father reported his first word was “dem-o-crat”, which he spoke at age one, while attending his first election. He loved history, going to the beach, reading, listening to music, watching Animal House and Top Gun, collecting model trains, and loving and playing with his dogs. Most importantly, Ray loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and little niece Bellemy. He was a kind and wonderful man. We will all miss him dearly.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Linda Molton Hoye, son, David Kir, Jr. (Kim) and children: Simon, Noa, and Stella; daughters: Laurie Kir, and children Hannah and Jacob Harkness; Maureen Edwards, and children Sloan, Myles (Amy), Sivan and Devin; and Erin Meadows and children: Brooke, Shelby, and Halle. He is also survived by numerous and dear cousins and former sons-in-law Mark I. Edwards and Robert Meadows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel P. Hoye and John R. Hoye, Sr. and his dear Golden Retriever, Maya.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday October 14, at 12 noon, at St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 50 Jefferson St. Uniontown, PA. Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
