Thomas B. Patterson Jr., 72 or Smithfield, Pa. passed away peacefully and went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 11, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 24, 1954 in Smithfield, Pa. to Thomas B. Patterson Sr. and Delores Oravets Patterson.

Tom grew up with a strong work ethic, a quick smile, and a deep devotion to the people around him. He never met a stranger. He was a man of integrity, warmth, and resilience-qualities that defined every role he played throughout his life. For 41 years, Tom was the devoted and adoring husband of Lou Ann. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and partnership. As a father to Krystle and Tommy, he was a steady anchor, a spoiler, a teacher, and the biggest supporter, and as a grandfather, he was the happiest and so proud to be a pappy to “all his girls”.

His family was his greatest pride and joy. Beyond his home, Tom was well liked and respected in the community. As the proud owner and operator of Tom Patterson and Son General Contracting LLC. For over 50 years, he wasn’t just a dedicated entrepreneur; he was a friend and neighbor to everyone he met. He believed in an honest day’s work, treating customers like family. Tom loved to help people and give back. For the last 25 years, he also owned and operated the Tavern in Shoaf, Pa. If you were lucky enough to have stopped by there, you would have left with a new friend in Tom and if you were even luckier, you got to enjoy the many years that Tom celebrated with family and friends there.

Tom loved to hunt deer, enjoyed collecting classic cars and truly enjoyed dinners with friends-and if you knew Tom, you probably shared a meal or drink with him at some point. Most importantly, Tom loved when his family were together. He was happiest knowing when everyone was in the same room together or under the same roof. Whether cooking Sunday dinners, endless rides and trips, having a beer at the Tavern, he was never without family. Being together and spending time with him was a gift he not only gave but lived well himself. He put everyone before he put himself. He always answered the phone and he never turned anyone down. There was nothing more important to him than his family being happy, safe and loved. He had a gift to bring people together which brought him and everyone lucky enough to join him-endless fun, love and amazing memories. His ornery laugh, generous giving spirit, and wise advice will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was lucky to have fulfilled a lifelong dream to build his 1959 Chevy pickup truck (in memory of his grandpap) and 1929 Ford Model A.

Tom is survived by his wife, Lou Ann; his daughter, Krystle Patterson-Hubeaut and husband Pat, and son, Thomas Patterson III; his grandchildren, Isabella Patterson “Belle”, Olivia “Livi” and Riley Patterson; siblings, Danny Patterson, Steve Patterson, Mike Patterson, Gus Patterson, Mark Patterson, Ted Patterson and Lisa Beckman and their families; and a large circle of extended family, loyal employees, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delores and Thomas Patterson Sr. and his brother, Doug Patterson.

The family will receive friends and family in the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, October 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ron Hickle officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
