James E. “Jim” “Pop Pop” Guthrie, Jr., 81, of Fairchance, passed away with his loving family by his side Sunday, September 13, 2026 and went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

He was born April 24, 1945 in Fairchance.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ida Mae and James Guthrie, Sr.; daughter, Stephanie Guthrie; grandson, Joey Albright; stepdaughter, Leah Ray Fields; brothers, Roy, Herb and Perry; and a sister, Elsie.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Carole Guthrie; four children, Jeffrey Guthrie, James “Bo” Guthrie III and fiancee Christie Sutton, Kristie Albright and husband Jack Albright, and Jennifer Leighty and husband Bob Leighty; six grandchildren, Zachary, Shannon and Kiersten “Gabby” Albright, Rowan “Boss” and Samuel Leighty, and Kristie Guthrie; several great- grandchildren; sister, Shirley Eberhart; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was employed for 37 years at US Steel Maple Creek Mine until his retirement.

He was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Uniontown.

The family will receive friends and family in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Thursday, September 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, September 18, from 10 until 11 a.m., when the funeral service will begin, with Pastor Jason Lamer officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield.

“Because He Lives, we’ll see Jim again one day.”
