Donnie Lynn, a strong man who lived a full and simple life, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Saturday, September 12, 2026. He was born Donald R. Lynn, Jr. November 22, 1939, to Donald R. Lynn, Sr. and Helen G. Lynn of Vanderbilt. He was raised in Vanderbilt and graduated from Connellsville High School in 1957.
Donnie continued his education at Duke University and then Baldwin Wallace University. He graduated with a BS in Health and Physical Education and received a Master’s Degree from Kent State University.
He returned to Vanderbilt and began a long teaching career at Connellsville Junior High West, where he also coached football and wrestling. It was there that he mentored many young people with whom he had a relationship to this day.
While Don had a great enthusiasm for teaching, his greatest passion was farming on his fifth-generation family farm. He loved being on his tractor, especially baling hay. For many years some of the young men he mentored in school became his helpers with all things farm work.
While his love for all things teaching, coaching, and farming were important, they could not compare to his love of family. Don cherished his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He looked forward to their visits-sharing good food, riding the Gator, playing games at Christmas, celebrating birthdays, and dying Easter eggs.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Indy; and his children, Jeffrey Lynn and wife Audrey, Tracey Coudriet and husband Norbert, Jennie Herrmann and husband Larry, and his “other son,” Jayme Roadman and family. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carter Coudriet and wife Caroline, Jackson Lynn, Carson Coudriet, Colleen Coudriet, and Sean Lynn; as well as his two great- grandchildren, Sally and Henry Coudriet. It’s safe to say that Don will be remembered by many friends, coworkers, local farmers, his church family, and the athletic community of Connellsville.
Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME LLC, 123 S. 1st Street, West Side, Connellsville (724) 628-9033, Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 2 to 8 p.m. A private funeral will be held Sunday, September 20, at 1 p.m. in the Vanderbilt United Methodist Church.
The family offers its sincerest thanks to Dr. Paul Means for his care and concern for many years and to the WVU Hospice Team, especially Brandy Hostetler, Genene Guty, and Francesca Pounds. Many thanks also go to his breakfast buddy, David Brady, reliable helper Eugene Lint, and to Rex Murphy, George and Bill Greenawalt, Bobby Striner, and Bill McCune for their unwavering help and support over the years.
