Eugene Sawka, 78, of Uniontown, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Peroni’s Personal Care Home. He was born September 7, 1948 in Brownsville, the son of the late Frank Sawka, Jr. and Margaret Zgola Sawka.
Eugene was a 1966 graduate of Beth Center High School. He worked in customer credit for Washington Gas Light Company for 30 years.
Eugene was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in West Brownsville. He was a loyal churchgoer and enjoyed helping the church ladies make small nut rolls. Eugene was an avid bingo player and he enjoyed listening to 1960s oldies music and playing the lottery.
Left to cherish Eugene’s memory are his siblings, Frank Sawka, III, Barbara Riggar (Kenneth), Mary Kay Arnold (Jim), Esther Schau, Victor Sawka, Dmitri Sawka, Frances Franks (David), Nicholas Sawka (Vicky), Nadine Sawka, Angela Douglas, Vladimir Sawka and Elias Sawka (Mary Ann); and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, where family and friends will be received Tuesday, September 22, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, September 23, from 10 until 11 a.m. in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in West Brownsville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Eugene’s life at 11 a.m., with Father Evan Ashmore officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cemetery.
A Parastas service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
