Mary Belle McCann, 94, of Smithfield, passed away with her loving family by her side Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Andrew and Ethel Handschumaker; her husband, Sim McCann; son, Lester McCann and son-in-law, Larry Dillow, Sr.; three brothers, Bill, Bob and Bud Handschumaker; and three sisters, Dorothy Gates, Ruth Miller and Elva Weir.
Mary Belle is survived by her daughters, Linda Dillow, whom she made her home with for three years, and Kathy McIntyre (Dana); son, David McCann (Jackie), all of Smithfield; daughter-in- law, Evelyn McCann of Carmichaels; her four grandchildren, Larry Dillow Jr. (Linda Sue), Terri Riggin (Dwayne), Tyler McCann (Rylea), and Samantha McCann (Ethan); four great- grandchildren, Tara Riggin (Luke), Haylee Long (Jake), Skyler Dillow, and Mary Beth Riggin (Anthony); one brother, Jim Handschumaker (Sue); ex-daughter-in- law, Becky McCann, who would visit Mary weekly; her beloved grandpuppy, Harlee, whom she shared her French fries with daily; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends and family in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Thursday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday, September 25, from 9 to 10 a.m., when a funeral service will begin, with Pastor Jim Handschumaker officiating.
The family would like to thank Sara Mesler and Amedisys nurses and aides for getting Mary home to spend her final days with family.
