Vaughn Dwayne Tolbert, Sr., 94, of Hopwood, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in WVU Uniontown Hospital.
He was born September 6, 1932, in Uniontown, the son of the late Donald Earl and Iva Daniels Tolbert.
In addition to his parents, Vaughn was preceded in death by his siblings, Lois Petson, Donna Foreman, and Marilyn McDowell; and his great-granddaughter, Kiera Dean.
He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine Lukowski Tolbert; his children, Melanie Deans (John “Bo”) of McClellandtown, and Vaughn “Toby” Tolbert, Jr. (Karen) of Dunedin, Fla.; grandchildren, Britni Addis (Eric) of Masontown, Cary Dean (Rachel) of Point Marion, Tyler Tolbert (Krista) of Hopwood, and Jenna Stashick of Uniontown; along with five great- grandchildren, Madison, Hunter, Melody, Everleigh, and Cary II; and siblings, Bobra Michotte (Fred) of Uniontown, Gloria Dillon of Uniontown, Dale Tolbert (Sondra) of Hopwood, Virginia Brugger of Farmington, Beatrice Fedorko of Utah, David Tolbert of Continental 3, and Maxine Litman of Uniontown.
Vaughn was a member of New Salem Orthodox Church.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Vaughn was employed by Kroger for 36 years before retiring from the National Park Service, where he worked at Fort Necessity.
He was a member of the Fayette County Coon Hunters. Vaughn was well known for his love of sled dog racing with his huskies. He also enjoyed entering his 1984 ST in car shows, where he proudly won many trophies.
Visitation will be held in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Sunday, September 27, from 1 until the hour of the funeral service at 5 p.m., with Pastor Martin Stewart officiating and Hopwood AMVETS holding military honors. Interment will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
